13.8. Paganism and Christianity

Why were Christians persecuted? We will focus on some of the reasons:

1- Christians did not want either to honor or sacrifice to Roman gods. Of course, this was an insult to the gods and to the Roman people, who considered that their gods protected them all the time.

2- Christians refused the imperial worship. The emperor was considered a demigod, so christians' attitude was a high treason and should be punished.

3- There were more Barbarian incursions and the economy was getting worse, so it was easier to blame Christians for all that.
