9.4. Prehistory on the Iberian Peninsula.

The Iberian Peninsula was populated 800.000 years ago. The remains of the first inhabitants of the Iberian Peninsula have been found in Atapuerca (Burgos).

There are archaeological sites that show the evolution of prehistoric life over the centuries:

  • There are many cave paintings in the Iberian Peninsula, found mainly in two areas: the Cantabrian area (from 30.000 BC) and the Mediterranean area (from 6.000 BC).

  • The Neolithic Age developed on the Iberian Peninsula and many megaliths are reminders of that time. Besides, many Neolithic cultures are found along the Mediterranean coast. They are characterized by the type of pottery they produced (cardium pottery, decorated with the imprint of shells).

  • Settlements from the copper age have been found throughout the Iberian Peninsula, standing out El Argar and Los MIllares, both in Almeria.

In honor of our ancestors, we are going to do a PREHISTORIC COLLABORATIVE MAP with Google Maps of the Iberian Peninsula.

This time I will create the map and will invite you to collaborate by accepting the invitation and doing as you did in your first map with Google Maps.

Each of you will contribute with an image (a cave painting or a megalith) and its basic information, following this outline:

  • identification and typology

  • description

  • location

  • period

  • function (if possible)

  • name of the student

You have two examples in the map.

Firstly, let's see these videos.
